McIntosh, AL (BuzzReport)- A 51-year-old McIntosh man perished early Friday morning following a single-vehicle accident in Washington County, according to law enforcement officials.

William R. Pitts was fatally injured when the 2008 Cadillac CTS he was operating left the roadway around 5:20 a.m. near the rural community of McIntosh. News 5 learned the vehicle veered sharply from the pavement before colliding forcefully with a tree.

The catastrophic crash occurred on John Johnston Road, in the vicinity of Shine Johnston Road, an area situated roughly seven miles south of McIntosh.

First responders arriving at the scene found the wreck and immediately confirmed the driver’s death. Mr. Pitts was pronounced deceased at the location of the impact.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has taken command of the investigation. Troopers assigned to the Highway Patrol Division are working to determine the circumstances that led to the vehicle’s departure from the roadway.

Authorities confirmed that no further information regarding the cause of the accident is available at this time as the detailed analysis of the scene continues.
