MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport)– A routine Sunday evening trip to a Mobile Walmart concluded with two 18-year-old women in handcuffs, facing theft charges after an alleged attempt to leave the store with unpaid merchandise.

The incident began to unfold around 5:00 p.m. on December 7, as the weekend drew to a close and the holiday shopping season entered its crucial final weeks. Law enforcement officials were alerted to a situation at the retail giant located at 101 E. I-65 Service Road S. Dispatchers indicated a report of a theft in progress.

Upon their arrival, officers were directed to two females who were reportedly attempting to exit the premises with items that had not been purchased. A brief investigation at the scene confirmed the initial report, leading to the immediate arrest of Lakyla Brooks and Tyriah Jones.

The disruption unfolded as the store was filled with shoppers finishing their errands, their carts often laden with seasonal goods. The sudden appearance of patrol vehicles and the subsequent arrest created a brief but noticeable stir among patrons, their attention drawn from aisles stocked with gifts and groceries to the unfolding situation near the store’s exit.

Following their apprehension, both individuals were transported from the bustling retail environment to Metro Jail. They were processed on charges related to the incident, their Sunday evening taking a drastic turn from a mundane shopping trip to a formal encounter with the criminal justice system.
