SLIDELL, La. (BuzzReport) – A Slidell family’s morning routine descended into unimaginable tragedy Tuesday when a 5-year-old boy was struck and killed in his own driveway. The Slidell Police Department has since arrested the child’s grandmother, accusing her of vehicular homicide in connection with the devastating incident.

The fatal event unfolded around 7 a.m. in the 300 block of Spartan Drive within the Spartan Trace neighborhood. The young child was reportedly preparing for his school day, waiting in the driveway for the bus, when he was hit by a car. Slidell police confirmed the vehicle was being driven by his 55-year-old grandmother, Kristen Anders, also a resident of Slidell.

Authorities conducting the investigation determined that Anders was allegedly operating the vehicle under the influence. Testing indicated the presence of both alcohol and central nervous system suppressants in her system at the time of the collision. She now faces a charge of vehicular homicide following the tragic loss of her grandson.

Interim Police Chief Daniel Seuzeneau characterized the incident as a profound tragedy, expressing the department’s deepest sympathies for the grieving family. He conveyed an earnest request for community prayers and support for the child’s mother and his two siblings, who are navigating an immense and sudden loss. Seuzeneau also underscored the precious and unpredictable nature of life, urging the public to embrace their loved ones, reflecting on the sudden onset of sorrow that marked the day.
