ESCAMBIA COUNTY, AL (BuzzReport)– What began as a mandatory enforcement stop at the busy intersection of Highway 164 and Highway 97 quickly escalated into a major drug and weapons seizure, resulting in the arrest of two individuals on multiple felony charges. Precinct 6 deputies initiated the stop, which soon involved specialized units after authorities requested assistance from the Atmore Police Department’s K-9 unit. The K-9 performed an exterior sweep of the vehicle, issuing an immediate positive alert for the presence of illegal narcotics. The subsequent search focused initially on the passenger and registered vehicle owner, 35-year-old Jose Alix Jr. Deputies located various narcotics within his belongings, leading to a host of charges. Alix Jr. now faces three separate counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, along with additional charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana under 20 grams. Furthermore, he was charged with a civil commitment violation. Jose Alex, Jr. Logan Michelle Smith Meanwhile, investigators also detained the driver, 21-year-old Logan Michelle Smith. During the investigation, authorities discovered that Smith was allegedly carrying a loaded firearm concealed within her purse. Records indicated that Smith is a convicted felon, legally prohibiting her from possessing weapons or ammunition. Consequently, she was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Following processing and booking, both individuals were transported directly to the Escambia County Jail. The coordinated effort between Precinct 6 deputies and the specialized K-9 unit effectively removed illicit drugs and an illegally possessed firearm from the county streets.
