Montgomery, AL (BuzzReport)— Nearly three months after a deadly early morning shooting rattled a Montgomery neighborhood, police have announced an arrest in the case, charging a 39-year-old man with murder. Montgomery Police Department officials confirmed Monday that Kenyada Johnson, 39, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 32-year-old Kentaris Couch. The fatal incident occurred at 7:15 A.M. on Friday, August 4, 2023. Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of Charles Street, where they discovered Couch suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Details regarding the motive for the shooting have not been released by authorities, who have maintained confidentiality throughout the investigation. The apprehension of Johnson marks a significant development in a case that had remained open for several weeks. Johnson was located and arrested by a specialized unit—the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force—suggesting the suspect may have been difficult to track or required specialized resources for the arrest. Following his capture, Kenyada Johnson was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he currently awaits his initial hearing. He is being held on the charge of murder. The police department has not commented on whether Johnson and Couch were known to each other, stating only that the charge was secured based on evidence collected during the exhaustive investigation following the summer homicide. While the arrest has brought the charging phase of the case to a close, police confirm the investigation remains active as they work to finalize all details for the prosecution.
