Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)- Mobile police successfully intercepted an apparent vehicle burglary spree late Friday night, leading to the arrest of three individuals—including one adult in possession of a stolen firearm recovered from a previous area theft.

The arrests concluded an evening of suspicious activity that spanned multiple apartment complexes and hinged on proactive residential alerts and swift police response.

The incident began just before 10 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, when officers were dispatched to the Windsor Place Apartments, located at 3661 Airport Boulevard. According to the Mobile Police Department (MPD), residents had reported seeing three subjects actively attempting to open vehicle doors throughout the property—a common precursor to vehicle burglary, often targeting unlocked cars for valuables or registration information.

Linking the Cases

The description of the three subjects quickly raised flags among dispatchers and responding officers. The report noted that the suspects matched the description given in a prior, similar case of vehicle tampering at The Estates at Lafayette Square, located just a short distance away at 900 Downtowner Boulevard. This connection suggested the individuals may have been involved in an ongoing pattern of property crime across the city.

Upon arrival at Windsor Place Apartments, officers quickly located the three subjects. The suspects were detained without incident, but the investigation immediately escalated from petty crime to a serious felony.

Stolen Weapon Recovered

During the detention, officers discovered that one of the subjects was in possession of a handgun which, upon tracing, was confirmed to be stolen. Sources indicate the weapon was originally taken from a vehicle at another nearby apartment complex, highlighting the dangerous potential for property theft to turn violent.

“The recovery of this stolen firearm is crucial,” explained a source close to the investigation. “These individuals were allegedly testing car doors, but having an illegally obtained weapon in their possession elevates this from simple tampering to a significant public safety concern. It takes a stolen item off the street that could have been used in a future violent crime.”

A detective immediately responded to the scene to take over the investigation, processing evidence related to the firearm and coordinating the connection between the multiple attempted burglary locations.

Charges Filed

The three arrested individuals face multiple charges related to vehicle tampering and theft, with the adult suspect also facing charges for possession of a stolen firearm.

The adult suspect was identified as Glen Handy, 19. Handy was transported to Metro Jail, where he is being held pending formal charges and a bond hearing.

The two remaining subjects, who were identified as juveniles, were transported to Strickland Youth Center. Due to state law, their identities were not released.

The Mobile Police Department stressed that the quick response time and successful resolution were due in large part to the vigilance of the residents at Windsor Place, who immediately reported the suspicious activity, allowing officers to intercept the crime in progress. The investigation is ongoing as authorities determine if the trio is responsible for additional vehicle burglaries reported in the Mobile area this month.
