Pike County, MS (BuzzReport)– A devastating crash on Highway 98 this morning has claimed the life of a Tylertown woman. The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is currently investigating the fatal collision that occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. The incident involved a 2019 Nissan Altima and a 2017 Mack garbage truck. According to MHP reports, the Nissan Altima, driven by 33-year-old Samantha Barnum of Tylertown, was traveling westbound on Highway 98 when it collided with the garbage truck. Tragically, Ms. Barnum was pronounced deceased at the scene. The occupants of the garbage truck, the driver and a passenger, sustained injuries that have been described by MHP as non-life-threatening. Emergency medical services responded to the scene, and further details regarding their condition have not been released. The Mississippi Highway Patrol has taken lead on the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this loss of life. Authorities are working to determine the precise cause of the collision.
