Birmingham, AL (BuzzReport) – A routine traffic stop during a targeted law enforcement initiative has led to significant drug and weapon seizures in Jefferson County, officials announced Friday. Operation Guardian Sweep, a collaborative effort by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), has once again demonstrated its effectiveness in combating dangerous criminal activity. On Thursday, September 25, 2025, JCSO Narcotics Detectives were actively engaged in Operation Guardian Sweep, focusing on known areas of concern within the county. Their attention was drawn to a white Mercedes at the intersection of Highway 269 and McDonalds Chapel Road after observing a clear violation of traffic law – a failure to signal a lane change. What began as a minor infraction quickly escalated as detectives initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle. The stop proved to be a pivotal moment, resulting in arrests and the discovery of illicit narcotics. Crucially, the information gleaned from this initial encounter provided detectives with the intelligence needed to secure a search warrant for a residential property located in the 3300 block of Bond Avenue. The execution of the search warrant at the Bond Avenue residence yielded further significant seizures, including a substantial amount of U.S. currency and a firearm. Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway lauded the operation’s success, emphasizing the importance of a unified approach to law enforcement. “Operation Guardian Sweep is a reflection of disciplined leadership and shared responsibility,” Sheriff Pettway stated. “When we move together—strategically, respectfully, and decisively—we don’t just deter crime, we restore confidence, we protect legacy, and we prove that unity is our greatest strength.” Echoing this sentiment, David R. Fitzgibbons, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Birmingham Division, highlighted the ongoing commitment to public safety. “Every violent fugitive we apprehend is one less danger to the public. The FBI and our partners are laser-focused on crushing violent crime and protecting families, children, and communities from those who would do them harm,” Fitzgibbons commented. Two individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with this operation. Suspect #1: Robert Clark, Jr., age 26, faces charges of two counts of Drug Trafficking, each with a bond set at $1,500,000.00, and one count of Fail to Signal Lane Change, with a bond of $300.00. His total bond amounts to $3,000,000,300.00. Clark is currently in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail. Suspect #2: Anthony Walker, age 22, has been charged with two counts of Drug Trafficking and one count of Rape 2nd Degree. Walker is also in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail, with no bond set for these charges. The narcotics seized during this operation include 59 grams of Fentanyl and 142 grams of Methamphetamine. In addition to the drugs, authorities confiscated $21,612.00 in U.S. currency. The weapon recovered was a Glock Model 19 9mm handgun, along with several pistol magazines and narcotic packaging material, indicating potential ongoing drug distribution activities. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone with additional information pertaining to this case to come forward.
