Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – A horrifying sequence of events unfolded in Mobile on Wednesday evening, culminating in the death of a 57-year-old man who was intentionally struck and dragged by a vehicle following an altercation. Police apprehended a suspect linked to the fatal incident, which investigators are now treating as a homicide. Emergency services were dispatched to the Circle K convenience store at 4880 Schillinger Road S. at approximately 6:19 p.m., responding to reports of a person hit by a vehicle. The initial scene was grim; arriving officers discovered the victim, Sam Walker, trapped underneath a vehicle that had vanished from the parking lot. The immediate priority shifted to locating the responsible party and the missing vehicle. A frantic search commenced, leading officers approximately two miles away to the 4400 block of Dawes Lane E. There, the abandoned vehicle was found. Nearby, the lifeless body of Sam Walker lay, a devastating confirmation of the initial fears. Evidence strongly suggested a struggle had preceded the grim discovery. Further investigation swiftly pieced together the sequence of events. Authorities determined that a heated argument had erupted between Walker and a 30-year-old individual, Jacob Cross. The dispute escalated tragically when Cross, according to police findings, deliberately used his vehicle as a weapon, intentionally ramming Walker. The impact was catastrophic, entangling Walker beneath the vehicle as it then left the initial scene. Jacob Cross was subsequently taken into custody. He was transported to Metro Jail, facing serious charges related to the deadly encounter. The Mobile Police Department maintains that this remains an active and evolving investigation as they continue to gather further details surrounding the fatal confrontation.
