MONTGOMERY, AL (BuzzReport) – A two-month investigation culminated Thursday with the arrest of a Montgomery teenager now facing the most severe charges in connection with a deadly incident that rocked the city in July. Cordericus Thomas, 19, has been charged with Capital Murder and Murder stemming from the events of July 12, 2025, according to the Montgomery Police Department (MPD).

Thomas was taken into custody on September 4, 2025, after being identified as the primary suspect in the afternoon incident that tragically spanned two distinct locations within Montgomery. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

The charges arise from a violent episode that occurred on Friday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 3:55 p.m. MPD officers were dispatched to the 400 block of N California Street and, concurrently, to the 1700 block of Upper Wetumpka Road, responding to reports of a critical incident. While specific details regarding the victim(s) and the nature of the crimes at each location have not yet been fully disclosed by authorities, the dual charges of Capital Murder and Murder indicate the severe and complex nature of the alleged crimes.

In Alabama, Capital Murder typically involves aggravating circumstances that elevate a murder charge, such as the killing of multiple individuals, murder during the commission of another felony (like robbery or kidnapping), or the murder of a law enforcement officer. The additional charge of “Murder” suggests either a separate victim or a distinct act of murder not covered by the capital charge, pointing to what appears to be a particularly devastating event.

“This arrest underscores the Montgomery Police Department’s unwavering commitment to pursuing justice for victims and their families,” stated a source close to the investigation, acknowledging the diligent work involved in identifying and apprehending Thomas. “Our officers have worked tirelessly since July to piece together the events of that day.”

Thomas’s identification as a suspect and subsequent arrest brings a critical development to a case that has undoubtedly cast a pall over the affected neighborhoods for weeks. His placement in the Montgomery County Detention Facility indicates he is being held without bond, typical for Capital Murder charges.

The community now awaits further details as the legal process unfolds. Thomas is expected to make his initial appearance in court in the coming days, where more information regarding the specific allegations may be revealed. The MPD has urged anyone with additional information related to this case to contact CrimeStoppers or the Montgomery Police Department directly.
