Teen Arrested After Chaotic St. Stephens Road Shootout Wounds Two, Strikes MPD Vehicle

MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) – A quiet Sunday morning in Mobile’s St. Stephens Road corridor was shattered by gunfire last week, leaving two men injured and a Mobile Police Department (MPD) vehicle among four cars struck by bullets. Following an intensive five-day investigation, authorities have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with the violent incident.

The dramatic events unfolded on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m. MPD officers were already present in the 1600 block of St. Stephens Road when an altercation erupted in the roadway between several male subjects. The dispute quickly escalated, culminating in shots being fired.

During the exchange of gunfire, two male victims sustained injuries. In a display of urgent self-preservation, both men were whisked away from the scene by personal vehicle and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries and their current conditions have not been released by authorities.

The indiscriminate nature of the violence was further highlighted by the damage it caused to nearby property. Four unoccupied vehicles parked at or near 1608 and 1610 St. Stephens Road were riddled with bullets. Of particular concern, one of the vehicles struck was an MPD patrol unit, underscoring the immediate danger posed to both the public and law enforcement personnel during the chaotic incident.

Following the early morning shootout, Mobile Police launched a swift and thorough investigation. Their efforts paid off on Friday, September 5, 2025, when officers successfully identified and located a subject believed to be involved in the incident.

Akil Pleasant, 19, was arrested and subsequently transported to Metro Jail. He currently faces charges related to the shooting.

As of now, the investigation into the St. Stephens Road shootout remains active. Mobile Police have stated that no further information, including potential motives or specific charges against Pleasant, will be released at this time.
