IRVINGTON, Ala. (BuzzReport) – An 18-year-old woman has been charged with murder and burglary after allegedly beating her grandmother to death in Irvington on Saturday.

Jailen Lupton, 18, stands accused in the death of her 70-year-old grandmother, Diane Trest, according to a news release from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a medical emergency call on Beverly Road on Saturday. Upon arrival, authorities found Diane Trest unresponsive in the front yard, suffering from severe head trauma. A mallet was reportedly discovered near her.

According to statements provided to deputies by witnesses, Lupton allegedly assaulted Trest before forcing her way into the residence. Inside the home, Lupton reportedly pushed down a witness and demanded car keys, explicitly stating that she had just killed her grandmother.

Lupton was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Mobile County Jail around 1:00 AM on Sunday morning, where she is currently being held on charges of murder and burglary. The investigation is ongoing.
