BIRMINGHAM, AL (BuzzReport) – A 23-year-old man, identified by authorities as Cameron Demijah Little, who was known as a songwriter and preacher, was fatally shot late Wednesday night at East Lake Park in Birmingham.

Little was one of two individuals struck by gunfire in the incident. The second victim’s condition was not immediately released, but they reportedly survived.

East Precinct officers were dispatched to the park, located in the 100 block of 84th Street North, just after 11:30 p.m. The city’s gunfire detection system, Shot Spotter, had alerted police to approximately 10 rounds discharged in the area.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Little unresponsive in the park. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

Officer De’Rell Freeman, a spokesperson for the Birmingham Police Department, stated that preliminary investigation indicates a group of individuals, both men and women, had gathered at the park. Circumstances leading to the exchange of gunfire remain unclear.

The Birmingham Police Department’s investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released information regarding potential suspects or a motive.
