Washington D.C. (BuzzReport)– Republican Congressman Cory Mills (R-Fla.) is facing a civil lawsuit seeking his eviction from his Washington, D.C., apartment. The property management company alleges that the Florida lawmaker owes more than $85,000 in unpaid rent, according to recent court filings. Bozzuto Management Company filed the complaint with the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, asserting that Rep. Mills failed to pay rent owed even after being served a nonpayment notice. Independent journalist Roger Sollenberger was the first to report on the filing. The company claims Mills owes a total of $85,009.80 in rent, noting that the property’s monthly rent amounts to $20,833. Court documents indicate that Bozzuto served a written Nonpayment of Rent Notice to Mills on January 22, requesting payment of a then-balance of $17,361 by February 26. Bozzuto also reportedly sent a notice of its intent to file a lawsuit, and a resident ledger provided as evidence indicated a pattern of overdue payments. In response to inquiries, Mills’ office directed attention to a statement he posted on X (formerly Twitter). In his post, Congressman Mills contested Sollenberger’s reporting, claiming he has experienced persistent issues with the management’s online payment system and has been in contact with his landlord to resolve these “payment link” problems. Rep. Cory Mills (R-Florida 7th District) Mills included screenshots of two emails, dated June 17 and July 3, which he stated he sent to the company requesting payment links. “Here’s just the past two months where you can see I’m repeatedly asking for payment links and again as I tried with management today, it failed to process,” he wrote. This legal dispute comes as Rep. Mills also faced a separate investigation earlier this year related to allegations that he assaulted a 27-year-old woman on February 19 at a Washington apartment. Mills has denied any wrongdoing in that matter.
