Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – In a promising sign for the long-awaited return of passenger rail service to the Gulf Coast, the inaugural Amtrak train from Mobile to New Orleans on August 18 has sold out. The train, which will depart from Mobile at 6:30 a.m. and arrive in New Orleans at 10:13 a.m., has generated significant excitement among train enthusiasts and locals alike. This marks a major milestone for the region, as Amtrak service has been absent since Hurricane Katrina. The sold-out train is a testament to the pent-up demand for reliable and convenient rail travel along the Gulf Coast. While business class tickets for the afternoon train departing at 4:30 p.m. are also sold out, coach tickets are still available for $37. Those looking to experience the inaugural journey can still secure a spot on the afternoon train, albeit in coach class. Any dates after August 18 seems to be around $24 one way for coach rides, and weekends around $30. The first train from New Orleans to Mobile, departing at 7:35 a.m. on August 18, has also sold out. With the inaugural service set to launch in just over a week, anticipation is building among locals and visitors eager to experience the revived rail service.
