Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)- Starting August 18, Amtrak’s new Mardi Gras Service will offer twice-daily train service between Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans, with stops along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Tickets are now available for this state-sponsored service, which promises to bring convenient and scenic travel to the region. The Amtrak Mardi Gras Service will feature morning and evening departures from both Mobile and New Orleans, with fares starting at $15 each way for adult coach tickets. Discounts are available for children, students, seniors, veterans, and military personnel. Trains will offer Coach and Business Class seating, as well as Café service with locally sourced items. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, wide reclining seats with ample legroom, and generous carry-on baggage allowances. The service is expected to boost local economies, connect people with jobs and education opportunities, and enhance the region’s tourism industry. Local officials and tourism leaders have welcomed the return of passenger rail service to the Gulf Coast, citing its potential to bring new opportunities and stronger regional ties. To celebrate the start of service, Amtrak will operate an inaugural train on August 16, inviting public officials and others to thank them for their work in bringing Amtrak service back to the region. Promotion for Amtrak Guest Rewards Members Through November 18, 2025, Amtrak Guest Rewards members can earn triple points on Amtrak Mardi Gras Service travel by completing three qualifying trips during the promotional period. Funding and Partnerships The Amtrak Mardi Gras Service is operated under contracts with the states of Louisiana and Mississippi, with financial support from the City of Mobile and backing from the Southern Rail Commission. Grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation support operating expenses and fund improvements for freight and Amtrak trains.
