Hancock County, MS (BuzzReport) – Former Diamondhead City Councilman Alan Moran has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for violating his probation in a child exploitation case. Moran appeared in Hancock County Circuit Court on Thursday, where he was found guilty of stalking and indicted on two more felonies – bribing a witness and conspiracy.

Circuit Court Judge Christopher Schmidt sentenced Moran to 15 years, with 12 years to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC), followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. Due to the nature of the conviction, the sentence must be served day-for-day without the possibility of parole. Moran will receive credit for any time previously served in jail.

Moran had been free after receiving a suspended sentence when he pleaded guilty to soliciting a teenage boy for sex. However, he was arrested again and faced additional charges, leading to the revocation hearing and his subsequent prison sentence.

Three other individuals, including Moran’s father, former state senator Philip Moran, are charged as co-conspirators in the bribery case. All four defendants are scheduled to appear in court on August 5 for a hearing related to the ongoing investigation.
