Pensacola, FL (BuzzReport) – A 37-year-old man wanted on multiple felony warrants was fatally shot by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) deputies at an Arby’s restaurant on U.S. 98 this afternoon. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. after deputies located the suspect believed to be evading arrest.

According to the ECSO, the deceased was wanted in connection with a June 13th incident involving domestic battery strangulation, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (a screwdriver held to the victim’s throat), burglary, and grand theft.

Deputies initially spotted the suspect in the Arby’s parking lot. In an attempt to evade apprehension, the suspect fled inside the restaurant, prompting a pursuit by three deputies.

The situation escalated dramatically when, according to the ECSO, the suspect jumped over the counter, physically assaulted a deputy, and armed himself with a large knife. He then confronted the pursuing deputies.

“The suspect began taking out several items from his pockets and tossing them about while keeping the knife in his hand,” stated the ECSO in a social media post. Despite repeated verbal commands from the deputies, the suspect reportedly refused to comply and “moved aggressively towards the deputies with the knife” in hand.

In response to the imminent threat, all three deputies discharged their firearms, striking the suspect multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ECSO has confirmed that no deputies sustained injuries during the confrontation. In accordance with standard operating procedure, all three deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an independent investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

The FDLE is expected to conduct a thorough review of the incident, including witness interviews and analysis of forensic evidence, to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting. Further details will be released as they become available. Stay with the Buzz Report.
