Former Mobile Police Detective Paul Onderdonk Announces Candidacy for City Council District 6

Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)- As the race for the Mobile City Council heats up, former Mobile Police Detective Paul Onderdonk has officially thrown his hat into the ring for District 6. With candidate qualifying now open, Onderdonk aims to bring a fresh perspective to a position currently held by first-term Councilman Josh Woods.

In a statement to The Buzz Report, Onderdonk outlined his vision for the district, emphasizing a need for transformative leadership that prioritizes the voices of ordinary citizens over career politicians. “Mobile deserves a government that truly reflects its people,” he stated. “For too long, we’ve seen the same style of leadership without meaningful change. It’s time for everyday citizens—our neighbors—to step up and serve.”

Onderdonk, who lacks formal political experience, boasts significant leadership skills honed through years of dedicated service. He emphasized the importance of community and collaboration, stating, “I have always put people first, and I will continue to do so as a representative of District 6. I am unwavering in my values and cannot be pressured or swayed by political influence.”

When discussing his priorities for District 6, Onderdonk highlighted several key areas: reducing crime through partnerships between law enforcement and community leaders, revitalizing aging infrastructure, eliminating wasteful spending, and investing in youth programs that promote career pathways and life skills.

“Creating a safer and stronger community is essential,” he noted. “We must focus on grassroots initiatives that empower local leaders and provide our youth with positive alternatives to crime.”

Onderdonk also addressed the broader topic of growth and development in Mobile, advocating for thoughtful and sustainable approaches. “We should address our city’s current infrastructure issues and support small businesses before spending millions luring large corporations,” he explained. He cautioned that growth should be community-driven to benefit residents in the long term.

Critically, Onderdonk expressed concerns about the funding behind the new City Arena project, asserting that taxpayers should not shoulder the burden of poor planning or rushed contracts. “Large-scale projects must be executed responsibly, with transparency and public input,” he stated.
