Jackson, MS (BuzzReport) – Wilbert Ransom, a 45-year-old Brandon resident, was denied bond in the Capitol Complex Improvement District Court after being arrested for robbing a Trustmark National Bank branch in Jackson. Ransom allegedly walked into the bank on May 27 around 4:23 pm, slipped a note under the teller’s window, and robbed her at knifepoint, making off with $80. Details of the Arrest Capitol Police apprehended Ransom hours after the incident. A security company tracked the stolen bills to a daycare center on Nakoma Drive, where the money and an electronic tracking device were found discarded near the intersection of Nakoma and Hanging Moss Road. Ransom’s Criminal History Records reveal Ransom was on probation at the time of the incident, stemming from a 2021 conviction for residential burglary. He was initially sentenced to 25 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, and placed on five years of supervised probation. However, Circuit Judge Brad Mills issued a warrant for Ransom’s arrest on June 6 for violating the terms of his probation. Previous Charges Ransom’s history also shows an indictment in 2018 for attempted aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle. The case was later remanded after the victim declined to pursue charges.¹ Next Steps After a motion for bond is denied, Ransom’s attorney may file a motion for reconsideration or request another hearing. If denied again, the next fastest way for Ransom to be released would be to take a plea agreement or set his case for trial. However, given his prior record and current charges, the outcome remains uncertain.
