Mobile, AL – Bill Appling, a lifelong Mobilian with a diverse background in law enforcement, business, and community service, has officially announced his candidacy for Mobile City Council District 4 in the upcoming municipal election scheduled for August 26, 2025. Appling is positioning himself as a leader who understands the needs of District 4 residents, emphasizing his deep roots in the community and his commitment to both preserving Mobile’s character and fostering responsible growth. “I’m running to make sure our neighborhoods are safe, our growth is smart, and our residents’ voices are truly heard,” Appling stated. “District 4 deserves a leader who listens, who’s walked in our shoes, and who shows up when it matters.” Appling brings a wealth of experience to the table. He launched his first business in downtown Mobile in his early twenties, served as a City of Mobile Police Officer for over a decade, and has since dedicated significant time to community revitalization, mentoring, and supporting families of fallen first responders. His campaign platform is built on four key pillars: Public Safety: Appling plans to focus on supporting law enforcement, collaborating with residents and police to identify and address troubled areas, and tackling the root causes of crime. Responsible Development: He aims to ensure that future development projects are well-suited to the needs and character of existing communities within District 4. Blight Cleanup & Beautification:Appling is committed to tackling neglected properties, supporting neighborhood beautification efforts, and focusing on areas like Highway 90 to ensure they are properly landscaped, clean, and safe. Community Engagement: He pledges to amplify residents’ concerns and ensure transparency and accessibility from City Hall. Appling plans to implement quarterly District 4 meetings to provide a regular forum for resident input. Beyond his professional background, Appling has a long record of community involvement. He founded Alabama Hues, a youth arts program that pairs local artists with at-risk youth to produce public art projects. He is a founding board member of Family of the Fallen, an organization dedicated to supporting families of police officers killed or severely injured in the line of duty. He has also served on the board as a logistics advisor for the Love All Pantry in Midtown Mobile for the past five years. Appling recently completed six years of service on the boards of the Downtown Mobile Alliance and the Downtown Mobile District Management Corporation, stepping down to pursue his candidacy for City Council.
