Bay Minette, AL (BuzzReport) – A traffic stop on May 12, 2025, led to the arrest of two individuals, Jay Douglas Trantham and Rachel Cathaleen Laster, for drug trafficking and possession charges.

According to the Bay Minette Police Department, a patrol officer stopped a Honda sedan on McMeans Avenue near West 9th Street for a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer observed the driver attempting to conceal a used syringe under the driver’s seat.

A search of the vehicle and its occupants revealed 66 grams of methamphetamine, 4 grams of powder cocaine, 50 grams of high-grade marijuana, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

Trantham, the driver, and Laster, the passenger, claimed they were returning to Fairhope from Atlanta, Georgia. Both were arrested and charged with drug trafficking, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd degree, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The pair was transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Center, where they are being held without bond pending a bond hearing.
