MONTGOMERY, AL (Buzz Report) – In a move aimed at curbing the proliferation of unregulated vape and THC products, the Alabama Legislature has passed two bills that would restrict their sale and accessibility.

One bill, sponsored by Rep. Andy Whitt, would grant the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board authority to regulate consumable hemp products. If signed into law, the bill would remove these products from convenience stores and impose limits on purchase quantities. Rep. Whitt emphasized the need for regulation, citing concerns about widespread availability.

A second bill, introduced by Rep. Barbara Drummond, would restrict convenience stores to selling only FDA-approved vape products. All other products would be sold in specialized stores catering to those 21 and older. Rep. Drummond’s motivation for the bill stems from concerns about the vaping epidemic’s impact on youth, including a tragic incident involving a young man who died after using a vape pen laced with fentanyl.

Both bills have been sent to the governor’s desk for signature.
