Cincinnati, OH – A tragic incident occurred in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Friday, when a car struck and killed a county deputy who was directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati. The driver, 38-year-old Rodney Hinton Jr., was charged with aggravated murder, with authorities suggesting the crash appeared intentional.

According to police, Hinton’s actions were deliberate, and a prosecutor stated that evidence and witnesses will show Hinton drove directly at the deputy in an attempt to kill him. Hinton appeared in court on Saturday, where a judge ordered him to be held until another hearing on Tuesday.

The incident comes just a day after Hinton’s 15-year-old son was shot and killed by a Cincinnati police officer. On Friday morning, Hinton and other family members met with the police chief to view body camera footage of the shooting. According to Michael Wright, an attorney hired by the family, Hinton was visibly distraught and upset after watching the video.

The deputy who lost his life was a retired member of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s department, working an off-duty assignment at the time of the incident. Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey described the deputy as well-liked and well-known, expressing the tremendous loss felt by the community.

The case is currently pending further investigation and court proceedings.
