Murder Arrest Made In Prichard Cemetery Execution

PRICHARD, AL (BuzzReport) — A deadly shooting at a Prichard cemetery that investigators described as an alleged execution has now resulted in a murder arrest, as authorities continue working to uncover what led to the killing of 22-year-old Vanol Lucky.

Deanta Kiesun Dubose was booked into the Mobile Metro Jail at approximately 5:43 p.m. Tuesday, according to jail records. Dubose is facing charges of murder, two counts of probation violation, and first-degree theft of property.

The arrest comes nearly two weeks after Lucky was found dead inside Gethsemane Cemetery in Prichard.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Lucky had been visiting a headstone at the cemetery with a group of friends when the situation turned deadly. Deputies were called to the cemetery on September 3 after a groundskeeper discovered Lucky’s body lying between two graves.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting have drawn significant attention from investigators, particularly because Sheriff Paul Burch has publicly characterized the killing as an apparent execution.

Burch said investigators believe the case may involve individuals with gang associations and are examining whether Lucky was specifically targeted.

“There are some gang associations, you know, within the people we know that are involved in the case,” Burch said, while indicating that investigators are still withholding additional details as the investigation continues.

The sheriff went on to describe the circumstances as potentially resembling a murder-for-hire case, although investigators have not publicly released all of the evidence supporting that theory.

“We believe this to be an execution, you know, to basically a murder for hire type case,” Burch said.

The killing has left Lucky’s family facing a devastating loss while investigators continue piecing together what happened inside the cemetery and determining the roles of those connected to the case.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed a possible motive beyond the information released by the sheriff, and additional arrests or charges could follow as the investigation develops.
