CITRONELLE, AL (BuzzReport) — A shooting investigation in Citronelle has led to the identification of an 18-year-old suspect accused of firing multiple rounds into a vehicle while two other teenagers were inside.

Citronelle Police Chief confirmed that an 18-year-old has been identified as the suspect in the shooting, which occurred on Prine Road.

The incident was first reported to police last week after officers were notified that someone had opened fire on a vehicle traveling in the area.

According to investigators, the vehicle was occupied by two teenagers when the shooting occurred. Police said the suspected shooter was positioned behind the vehicle and began firing multiple rounds.

At least three shots struck the vehicle.

Investigators said two bullets struck the trunk, while another round hit the rear windshield.

Although the vehicle was struck several times, authorities have not indicated that anyone inside was injured.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation, including what prompted the gunfire and whether the suspect and the occupants of the vehicle knew one another.

The incident has raised concerns in the Citronelle community because of the potential for serious injury or death. A vehicle carrying multiple people was struck by gunfire, including a shot that shattered or penetrated the rear windshield.

Police have identified the suspect as 18-year-old Jeffrey Herrington, as investigators continue working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have not released additional details about a possible motive or disclosed whether the suspect has been formally charged in connection with the shooting.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges or information could be released as detectives continue gathering evidence.
