LAUDERHILL, Fla. (BuzzReport) — Sean Lozano, the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor and running mate of GOP gubernatorial candidate James Fishback, is under criminal investigation after the Lauderhill Police Department referred the findings of an internal affairs investigation to the Broward State Attorney’s Office. The State Attorney for Florida’s 17th Judicial Circuit confirmed Thursday that prosecutors are reviewing the case through the office’s Public Corruption Unit. “Yes, the Lauderhill Police Department referred its internal affairs unit’s investigation findings regarding the 2025 bus terminal incident to our Public Corruption Unit for review. That review by prosecutors is ongoing,” Public Information Officer Aaron Savitski said in a statement. The criminal review stems from a March 2025 incident at a Lauderhill bus terminal involving Lozano and a woman during his time with the Lauderhill Police Department. According to an internal affairs report, investigators concluded that Lozano violated multiple departmental policies during the encounter. The reported violations include honesty and truthfulness, professional conduct, body-worn camera requirements, body armor requirements, and use-of-force reporting procedures. Investigators also determined that Lozano was neither wearing nor operating his department-issued body-worn camera or body armor during the incident, despite departmental policies requiring both under the circumstances. Perhaps most significantly, the internal affairs investigation found that surveillance video from the bus terminal did not support Lozano’s written account of how the woman ended up on the ground during the encounter. The discrepancy between the video evidence and Lozano’s official report became a central focus of the investigation. The referral to the State Attorney’s Office does not constitute criminal charges. Prosecutors are now reviewing the evidence to determine whether any state laws were violated and whether criminal charges are warranted. The development comes as Lozano campaigns alongside Fishback in Florida’s closely watched gubernatorial race, adding a legal cloud over the Republican ticket. While the internal affairs investigation found policy violations, the criminal investigation will determine whether the conduct rises to the level of prosecutable offenses. Neither Lozano nor the Fishback campaign had publicly commented on the criminal investigation as of Thursday. The State Attorney’s Office emphasized that the review remains ongoing, and no decision has been announced regarding possible charges.
