Woman Found Dead Hanging From Tree Behind Vacant Home in Jackson; Police Launch Investigation

JACKSON, Miss. (BuzzReport) — Authorities in Jackson are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered hanging from a tree behind a vacant home earlier this week.

According to the Jackson Police Department, officers responded on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, to the 500 block of Road of Remembrance after the woman’s body was discovered on the property.

Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard confirmed that the victim was found hanging from a tree in the backyard of a vacant residence. Officials have not publicly released the woman’s identity, pending notification of her family.

Investigators have also not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death or whether foul play is suspected. Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine exactly what occurred.

The scene was secured while investigators and the Hinds County Coroner’s Office processed evidence. An autopsy is expected to help determine the woman’s cause and manner of death.
