Semmes Police Officer, Recently Named Officer of the Year, Arrested on DUI Charge in Satsuma

SATSUMA, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A Semmes police officer who was recognized earlier this year as the department’s Officer of the Year is now facing a driving under the influence charge following an early morning arrest in neighboring Satsuma.

Satsuma Police Chief Troy Willcutt confirmed that Officer Bryan Mims was arrested at approximately 1:15 a.m. on July 26 after a traffic stop in Satsuma led officers to charge him with driving under the influence (DUI).

According to Chief Willcutt, Mims was off duty at the time of the incident and was not operating a Semmes Police Department patrol vehicle when he was stopped by officers.

Following his arrest, Mims was transported to a holding facility in Satsuma, where he was booked on the DUI charge. Authorities confirmed that he has since been released.

The arrest comes just months after Mims was honored by the Semmes Police Department as its Officer of the Year, making the incident particularly notable for the department and the surrounding community.

As of now, officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the traffic stop or whether Mims has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. The Semmes Police Department has also not announced whether an internal investigation or disciplinary review has been initiated.
