MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) — Mobile Police are investigating a late-night shooting that left a woman fighting for her life after she was shot while sitting inside her vehicle. Investigators also discovered that an occupied home was struck by gunfire during the incident, raising concerns about the danger posed to nearby residents.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Rickarby Street at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in response to reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found an adult female suffering from a severe, life-threatening gunshot wound. Authorities said the victim was seated inside her vehicle when the shooting occurred. Emergency responders provided aid at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital, where she remains under medical care.

During the investigation, officers determined that an occupied residence was also struck by gunfire. Fortunately, no one inside the home was injured, but the incident underscores the potentially tragic consequences of gun violence in residential neighborhoods.

Investigators have not released details regarding a possible suspect, motive, or the circumstances leading up to the shooting. It is also unclear whether the victim was specifically targeted or if the shooting was random.

Crime scene investigators worked through the night collecting evidence, documenting the scene, and interviewing potential witnesses in an effort to determine exactly what happened.

The Mobile Police Department says the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time.
