PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. — An early morning shooting at a private overnight event on Pensacola Beach prompted a large law enforcement response Saturday, as investigators with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office worked to determine exactly what happened. According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:46 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting at a private event hosted by The Wharf on the Quietwater Beach Boardwalk. The event, organized by the private business, allowed attendees to camp overnight on its privately leased section of the beach. Participants reportedly paid $100 per tent for the overnight camping experience. When deputies arrived, they immediately secured the area to ensure the safety of those attending the event while investigators began processing the scene. Authorities said initial information suggested the victim may have accidentally shot himself. However, detectives encountered significant challenges during the investigation because the victim and witnesses who may have seen the incident were reportedly uncooperative with investigators. Despite the lack of cooperation, detectives conducted an extensive examination of the scene, documenting evidence and collecting physical evidence to reconstruct the events leading up to the shooting. Based on the preliminary findings, investigators believe the 22-year-old male victim suffered an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg. The victim’s condition has not been publicly released. Although investigators have reached a preliminary conclusion, the case remains active. Detectives are continuing to review surveillance footage from the area and are following up on any additional evidence that could provide a clearer timeline of the incident. Officials emphasized that there is no indication of foul play at this time and that no suspects are being sought in connection with the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office also stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, reassuring both residents and visitors that the incident appears to be isolated. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information about the incident to contact the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office as detectives continue reviewing all available evidence.
