Armed Standoff at Mobile Apartment Ends Peacefully; SWAT Takes Man Into Custody

MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) — A tense domestic-related incident at a Mobile apartment complex Monday afternoon ended peacefully after a heavily armed law enforcement response resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old man without injury.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched to Maison Apartments, located at 3920 Berwyn Drive South, at approximately 2:32 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, after receiving a report that a man was refusing to allow his son to leave the residence.

When officers arrived at the scene, they learned the situation had escalated because the man was reportedly armed with a firearm. Due to the potential danger to those inside the residence, responding officers secured the area and requested assistance from the Mobile Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

The incident prompted a significant law enforcement presence at the apartment complex as officers worked to safely resolve the situation while protecting nearby residents and responding personnel.

After negotiations and tactical operations, SWAT officers were able to safely take the suspect into custody without any shots being fired or injuries reported.

Authorities identified the suspect as Dwayne Hawkins, 45, who was arrested at the scene and transported to Mobile Metro Jail. Officials have not yet released the specific charges he is facing, and it remains unclear whether anyone inside the residence was injured during the incident.

Police have not disclosed additional details regarding what led to the dispute or the relationship between Hawkins and the child beyond indicating that the call involved a father refusing to allow his son to leave the residence.

The peaceful resolution of the standoff brought an end to what could have become a dangerous confrontation, highlighting the coordinated efforts of patrol officers and the SWAT team in safely bringing the situation under control.
