Arrest Made in Deadly Downtown Mobile Shooting That Claimed Juvenile’s Life

MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) — Mobile police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly Fourth of July weekend shooting that left a juvenile dead after gunfire erupted in downtown Mobile.

Investigators announced that 19-year-old Jametrius Jackson was taken into custody on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, following an intensive homicide investigation. Jackson was transported to Metro Jail, but authorities have not released additional details regarding the charges or the circumstances surrounding the arrest, citing the ongoing investigation.

The arrest stems from a fatal shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched to a local hospital at approximately 2:00 a.m. after a juvenile male arrived suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

As detectives pieced together the events leading up to the shooting, they determined the victim had been riding inside a vehicle with several other occupants when someone opened fire near the intersection of Government Street and Bayou Street in downtown Mobile.

The vehicle was struck multiple times by gunfire. While the juvenile victim suffered fatal injuries, no one else inside the vehicle was hurt.

Police say the shooting occurred despite an increased law enforcement presence throughout the downtown entertainment district during the busy holiday weekend. Additional officers had been deployed, and the city’s curfew for minors was actively being enforced as thousands gathered to celebrate Independence Day.

Officials noted, however, that the violence unfolded after the majority of visitors had already left the downtown festivities.

At the time of the shooting, Mobile Police Chief William Jackson described the incident as appearing to be a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence.

The arrest of Jametrius Jackson marks a significant development in the investigation, though detectives emphasize the case remains active. Authorities have not indicated whether additional arrests are possible or whether a motive has been established.
