MONROE COUNTY, AL (BuzzReport) — Authorities in Monroe County are investigating a Fourth of July shooting that left a young girl seriously injured, prompting an emergency airlift to a Mobile hospital.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Tom Boatwright, the child was shot on Saturday, July 4, under circumstances that remain under active investigation.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene before the young victim was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in Mobile for advanced treatment. Sources familiar with the incident say the girl’s injuries were severe enough to require immediate air transport.

As of Monday, officials have not released the girl’s age, identified any suspects, or disclosed what led to the shooting. Her current medical condition has also not been made public.

Investigators are working to determine exactly how the shooting occurred, including whether it was accidental or intentional. Authorities have not announced whether anyone has been taken into custody or if criminal charges are expected.

Sheriff Boatwright said the investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
