PENSACOLA, FL (BuzzReport) — A night in downtown Pensacola turned deadly after a mass shooting left one person dead and six others injured, triggering a massive law enforcement response and sending crowds fleeing from one of the city’s busiest entertainment districts.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred near the intersection of Palafox and Intendencia streets around 1:30am. Officers responded within minutes after reports of multiple gunshots rang out, finding several victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police confirmed that one person died at the scene, while six others were injured. The conditions of the surviving victims have not yet been released.

In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement officers flooded the downtown area, securing the crime scene with police tape as investigators began collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Emergency medical personnel rushed the injured victims to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities also confirmed that multiple people are now in custody in connection with the shooting. However, investigators have not announced whether those individuals will face charges or what role they may have played in the incident.

The Pensacola Police Department is urging residents and visitors to avoid the downtown area, particularly near Palafox and Intendencia streets, as detectives continue to process the scene. Several streets remain closed while investigators search for evidence and work to determine exactly what led to the deadly violence.

At this time, police have not released the identity of the deceased victim, the names of those injured, or a possible motive for the shooting. It also remains unclear whether investigators believe there are any additional suspects outstanding.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or captured video of the incident to contact investigators immediately, as they continue working to reconstruct the events leading up to the gunfire.
