GREENVILLE, MS (BuzzReport). — A shocking homicide investigation unfolded in Greenville on Thursday after a man voluntarily walked into the Greenville Police Department and confessed to fatally shooting a woman he identified as his longtime girlfriend. According to the Greenville Police Department, at approximately 11:42 a.m. on June 25, 2026, an adult male entered police headquarters and informed officers that he had shot a woman at a residence on Alexander Street. The man immediately surrendered himself to authorities but declined to provide additional details about the incident, invoking his right to have an attorney present before answering further questions. Police identified the suspect as Rodney Haney, who told investigators that the victim was Minnie Coffey. Haney stated the two had been involved in a dating relationship for approximately four years. Following the confession, investigators quickly responded to the Alexander Street location to begin processing the crime scene while officers took Haney into custody. After gathering evidence and conducting their preliminary investigation, detectives formally charged Haney with Murder in connection with Coffey’s death. Authorities have not yet released information regarding what may have led to the fatal shooting or whether there had been any previous reports of domestic disturbances involving the couple. Investigators also have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the shooting itself or whether additional evidence was recovered at the scene.
