FOLEY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A former Baldwin County funeral director is facing serious criminal charges after investigators uncovered what authorities describe as a pattern of deception involving grieving families who paid for funeral-related services that were never delivered.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office announced that Tim Street, who was serving as the funeral director at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, has been charged with Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, First Degree, following a months-long investigation into allegations of fraud and mishandled funds.

The investigation began in March 2026 when a Baldwin County resident contacted authorities to report concerns regarding a headstone purchased for a recently deceased family member. According to investigators, the family had spent months attempting to obtain information about the status of the memorial marker, only to receive repeated delays, excuses, and unfulfilled promises from Street.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, the complainant also filed a report with the Alabama Funeral Home Board, prompting additional scrutiny into the matter.

MULTIPLE FAMILIES COME FORWARD

As investigators dug deeper into the complaint, they discovered the issue was far from isolated.

Authorities identified multiple individuals who reported nearly identical experiences. Families told investigators they had paid Street for headstones, grave markers, and other funeral-related services but never received the products they purchased. In several cases, victims reportedly waited months—and even years—for services that never materialized.

The growing number of complaints raised serious concerns and expanded the scope of the investigation.

FINANCIAL RECORDS REVEAL ALLEGED DISCREPANCIES

During the criminal investigation, detectives reviewed numerous personal and business banking records connected to Street’s activities.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, investigators uncovered significant financial discrepancies. Evidence allegedly showed that Street accepted cash payments and checks from customers but failed to deposit those funds into Pine Rest Funeral Home’s business accounts.

Investigators further determined that several orders for headstones and memorial markers were never completed despite families having already paid for the services.

Authorities say the findings suggest a pattern of conduct that left grieving families without the memorials and services they believed had been arranged for their loved ones.

FUNERAL HOME OWNERS RESPOND

Once the allegations and investigative findings were presented to Pine Rest Funeral Home’s ownership, company officials reportedly took immediate action.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the owners have fully cooperated with investigators throughout the case. Since learning of the alleged misconduct, they have worked to identify affected families, address unresolved concerns, and assist in correcting issues tied to Street’s actions.

Authorities emphasized that the funeral home’s current ownership has been proactive in helping investigators and supporting impacted families.

CRIMINAL CHARGES FILED

In June 2026, Street was contacted by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies and met with investigators regarding the allegations.

Following that meeting, authorities formally charged him with Financial Exploitation of the Elderly in the First Degree, a serious felony offense under Alabama law.

Investigators say the case remains active and that additional charges are expected as more evidence is reviewed and additional victims are identified.

AUTHORITIES SEEK ADDITIONAL VICTIMS

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Funeral Home Board are urging anyone who may have experienced similar issues involving funeral services, headstones, grave markers, or other prepaid arrangements connected to Street to come forward.

Officials believe there may be additional victims who have not yet reported their experiences.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and speak with Captain Correa or call 251-937-0202 (Option 1) to file a report.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the full extent of the alleged financial losses and the number of families impacted by the case.

The Alabama Funeral Home Board is conducting a separate administrative investigation into the matter.
