72-Year-Old Passenger Killed in Devastating Late-Night Crash at Busy Mobile Intersection

MOBILE, Ala. — A tragic late-night collision at one of Mobile’s busiest intersections claimed the life of a 72-year-old man Saturday night, leaving family members mourning and investigators searching for answers.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Cottage Hill Road and Schillinger Road at approximately 11:50 p.m. on June 20, 2026, following reports of a serious traffic accident.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a male passenger had suffered fatal injuries in the violent crash. The victim was later identified as Alan Grantham, 72.

Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that a pickup truck traveling southbound on Schillinger Road allegedly ran a red traffic signal before colliding with a vehicle traveling westbound on Cottage Hill Road. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in catastrophic damage and ultimately claiming Grantham’s life.

Authorities said Grantham was a passenger in the vehicle that was struck by the pickup truck. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle carrying Grantham survived the crash and was transported to a local hospital with what officials described as minor injuries. No additional information regarding the driver’s condition has been released.
