MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport News) — A Mobile man convicted in a deadly 2023 drive-by shooting that left one woman dead and placed multiple juveniles in harm’s way has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, bringing a measure of closure to a tragic case that shocked the community.

Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood announced that Jaymon Johnson was sentenced after a jury previously found him guilty on all charges stemming from the March 2023 shooting that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Dajarra Jackson.

According to evidence presented during the trial, Johnson opened fire on a parked vehicle occupied by several juveniles during a violent incident that prosecutors described as reckless and devastating. As gunfire erupted, Jackson, who was walking away from the area, was struck and killed.

The shooting not only claimed an innocent life but also endangered multiple young people who were present at the scene. Court testimony revealed that a 15-year-old victim suffered a grazing gunshot wound, while several other juveniles were forced into the line of danger as bullets tore through the area.

Prosecutors argued that Johnson’s actions demonstrated a complete disregard for human life and public safety, transforming what may have been a targeted act of violence into a tragedy that affected an entire community.

Following deliberations, a Mobile County jury convicted Johnson of Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault First Degree, Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, and two counts of Reckless Endangerment.

During sentencing proceedings, Judge York imposed the following penalties:

  • 25 years in prison for Murder
  • 20 years in prison for Attempted Murder
  • 10 years in prison for Assault First Degree
  • 10 years in prison for Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle
  • 10 years in prison for each of two counts of Reckless Endangerment

The court ordered all sentences to run concurrently, resulting in an effective sentence of 25 years in prison.

The conviction and sentencing mark the conclusion of a case that underscored the deadly consequences of gun violence in Mobile County. The loss of Dajarra Jackson serves as a painful reminder that innocent lives are often caught in the crossfire of senseless acts of violence.

For Jackson’s family, no prison sentence can restore what was taken from them. However, prosecutors say the verdict and sentence ensure accountability for a crime that left a family grieving, injured a teenager, and placed numerous children at risk.

District Attorney Keith Blackwood praised the work of prosecutors, investigators, and law enforcement officials who helped secure the conviction, emphasizing that violent crimes involving innocent victims will continue to be aggressively prosecuted.
