MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A high-speed pursuit that began on Interstate 65 and stretched across Montgomery County ended Friday morning with the arrest of a Union Springs man who now faces multiple felony and traffic-related charges, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Authorities said the incident began at approximately 11:10 a.m. on June 12 when an ALEA Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at an excessive speed while recklessly changing lanes in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the 173-mile marker.

Instead of pulling over, the driver allegedly refused to stop, prompting a pursuit.

According to ALEA, the suspect exited Interstate 65 at Exit 168 before continuing onto U.S. Highway 31. The pursuit continued as the driver maneuvered through multiple roadways, including making a left turn near Exit 167, while law enforcement officers worked to safely bring the situation to an end.

As the chase unfolded, deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit joined ALEA troopers in the effort to apprehend the suspect.

The pursuit continued along U.S. 31 near Union Academy Road, where a MACS Unit officer successfully executed a maneuver that brought the fleeing vehicle to a stop.

However, the incident was not yet over.

ALEA said the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. After a brief search, officers captured the suspect without further incident.

The driver was identified as Dontay F. Goshay, 50, of Union Springs.

Investigators charged Goshay with:

  • Felony Attempting to Elude
  • Reckless Driving for allegedly traveling 108 mph in a 55 mph zone
  • Driving with a Revoked Driver License
  • Multiple additional traffic violations

Following his arrest, authorities discovered Goshay also had multiple outstanding warrants for Attempting to Elude, further compounding the charges against him.

Goshay was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was booked and held on a $15,000 bond.

ALEA commended both the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit for their assistance during the pursuit, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between agencies in addressing dangerous criminal activity on Alabama roadways.

Officials emphasized that reckless driving and attempts to evade law enforcement place motorists, officers, and the public at significant risk.

The investigation remains ongoing, and ALEA stated that no additional information is being released at this time.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact law enforcement authorities.
