Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Mobile Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Friday afternoon at a Target store in West Mobile after a suspected shoplifting incident escalated into a physical confrontation with a store employee.

According to authorities, officers responded to the Target located at 790 Schillinger Road South on Friday, May 29, 2026, at approximately 1:40 p.m. following reports of a robbery.

When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with a store employee who reported observing a female suspect allegedly concealing merchandise inside her purse before attempting to leave the store without paying for the items.

The employee reportedly confronted the suspect as she exited the store. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly pushed the employee in order to escape, allowing her to flee the location with the merchandise.

Under Alabama law, a shoplifting incident can be elevated to a robbery when force is used against another person during the commission of a theft or while attempting to escape.

No injuries were reported during the incident, and police have not released a description of the suspect at this time.

The Mobile Police Department says the case remains an active investigation, and additional details are being withheld as detectives continue their efforts to identify and locate the individual responsible.
