MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport)— A corrections officer with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office was injured Tuesday after being assaulted by an inmate inside a Mobile County detention facility, authorities said. According to officials, the incident happened on May 26 when an inmate attacked the officer with a shank, a homemade weapon commonly used inside correctional facilities. The officer suffered injuries during the assault. Authorities have not released the extent of those injuries or the current condition of the corrections officer. The identity of the inmate involved has not been released publicly, and officials have not said what led up to the attack. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation. Additional charges against the inmate are expected.
