Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Police say a coordinated retail theft investigation at a Walmart Supercenter on Rangeline Road led to one arrest Thursday afternoon after multiple individuals allegedly worked together to steal merchandise from the store. According to authorities, officers responded to the Walmart Supercenter at approximately 12:00 p.m. on May 21, 2026, in reference to a reported retail theft in progress. When officers arrived at the scene, they detained one subject who matched the description provided by the store’s asset protection team. Police said the remaining individuals involved had already left the location before officers arrived. A detective later responded to assist with the investigation. Authorities determined that four individuals were allegedly working together inside the store and communicating with one another while concealing merchandise before attempting to leave the business without stopping at the point of sale. Investigators say the incident appeared to involve a coordinated effort to bypass payment and remove items from the store unlawfully. Police identified the arrested suspect as Shane Steiner, 35, who was transported to Metro Jail following the investigation. Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the identities of the other individuals involved or whether further arrests are expected. The investigation remains ongoing.
