Mobile, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A 19-year-old student has been arrested following an on-campus assault at the Continuous Learning Center in Mobile on Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Officers responded to the school, located at 1870 Pleasant Avenue, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on May 5, 2026, after receiving reports of an assault involving a student and an employee.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials determined that a male staff member had been struck in the face by a male student during an altercation on campus. The incident reportedly escalated quickly, resulting in the employee sustaining injuries. The extent of the victim’s injuries has not been publicly disclosed, but the situation was serious enough to prompt immediate police intervention.

Following an on-site investigation, officers identified the suspect as 19-year-old Frederick Tate. Authorities say Tate physically assaulted the employee during the confrontation, leading to his arrest at the scene without further incident.

Tate was taken into custody and transported to Metro Jail, where he is currently being held. Formal charges related to the assault are expected, though officials have not yet released additional details regarding potential counts or bond information.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about safety within alternative education environments, where staff often work closely with students facing academic or behavioral challenges. School officials have not yet issued a public statement regarding the altercation or whether any additional disciplinary measures will be taken.

This remains an active investigation, and authorities say further details may be released as they become available.
