Mobile, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A 71-year-old man is behind bars following a violent assault at a Mobile apartment complex that left a victim hospitalized with serious injuries, according to authorities.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 5, 2026, officers were notified of an assault that had occurred days earlier at Central Plaza Towers, located at 304 Bay Shore Avenue.

Investigators determined that in late April, a male victim arrived at a local hospital suffering from major lacerations sustained during an incident at the apartment complex. Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim remains hospitalized as of this report.

As the investigation progressed, officers identified a suspect who also resides at the complex. Authorities say the suspect struck the victim with a metal pipe during the altercation, causing the serious injuries.

On May 5, police arrested Jonathan Williams, 71, in connection with the attack. He was taken into custody and transported to Metro Jail.

Officials have not released additional details regarding what led to the violent confrontation or the current condition of the victim. Charges against Williams have not been fully outlined, but the nature of the assault suggests he could face serious felony charges.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence and determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
