MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A routine driving lesson took a dangerous turn Monday morning when a vehicle crashed into an apartment unit on Azalea Road, according to authorities. Officers responded to the Summer Place Apartments, located at 557 Azalea Road, at approximately 9:09 a.m. on April 27, 2026, after receiving reports of a vehicle that had struck a building. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered the vehicle had traveled completely into a vacant apartment unit, causing visible structural damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that a mother was attempting to teach her juvenile daughter how to drive at the time of the crash. Authorities say the young driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, leading to the vehicle surging forward and crashing into the building. While the apartment unit was unoccupied at the time, the incident has raised concerns about the risks associated with inexperienced drivers operating vehicles in residential areas without proper safeguards. Officials have not indicated whether any citations or charges will be filed, and the extent of the property damage has not yet been publicly disclosed. The investigation remains ongoing.
