Crestview, FL (BuzzReport) — A routine traffic stop in Okaloosa County escalated into multiple arrests early this morning after deputies say a vehicle was clocked at an alarming speed of 137 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred along State Road 85 near Live Oak Church Road. Deputies initiated the stop after identifying the vehicle traveling at what authorities described as a “dangerous and excessive” speed.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Jim Mitchell of Pensacola, was taken into custody and charged with excessive speed exceeding 100 mph. Officials say Mitchell was behind the wheel of a black 2006 Audi at the time of the stop.

During the investigation, deputies also arrested the passenger, 25-year-old Akeem Malik Finlay of Baker. Finlay faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Authorities confirmed that Finlay was additionally placed on hold for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), though further details regarding that hold have not yet been released.

Law enforcement officials stress that speeds exceeding 100 mph pose a significant threat to public safety and say this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving.

The investigation remains ongoing.
