DOTHAN, Ala. (BuzzReport) — Two out-of-state men are facing serious drug trafficking charges after authorities intercepted a package containing a large quantity of marijuana that was shipped to a residence in Dothan, according to the Dothan Police Department. Investigators say the case began on April 9, 2026, when law enforcement was alerted to a suspicious package believed to contain illegal narcotics scheduled for delivery to a local address. Narcotics investigators with the department quickly launched an operation to monitor the delivery and identify those involved. Upon further investigation, authorities identified the intended recipients as Gerald Rattery, 40, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Brian Fields, 39, of Chico, California. Officers determined the package contained approximately 10 pounds of marijuana. After the package was delivered, police say both suspects retrieved it and departed the residence in a vehicle. Investigators conducted a traffic stop shortly afterward, during which they discovered the package in the trunk of the vehicle. Rattery was arrested and charged with one count of conspiracy to traffic marijuana, while Fields was charged with one count of trafficking marijuana. Authorities said the charges reflect the alleged coordinated effort to distribute a significant quantity of illegal drugs. Both men are currently being held on bonds set at $1.5 million each. No additional suspects have been identified at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing. Officials with the Dothan Police Department emphasized that operations like this are part of continued efforts to intercept illegal narcotics before they reach communities and to hold those responsible accountable under Alabama law.
