BOWIE, MD (BuzzReport) — In a race shaped by transition and opportunity, 23-year-old Rebecca Pearce is making history as the youngest candidate ever to run for mayor of Bowie, Maryland—while delivering a message centered on hope, progress, and civic engagement. A lifelong resident of Prince George’s County, Pearce officially entered the race in late February following the resignation of former Mayor Tim Adams, which prompted a special election set for April 7. Now among nine candidates vying for the city’s top leadership role, Pearce is distinguishing herself with a campaign rooted in affordability, education, and community-driven growth. Her decision to run, she says, was fueled by both purpose and timing. “I am running because I always knew I was going to go into office—and I decided, if not now, then when?” Pearce said. “I love people, I love community, and I love investing back into the community that ultimately built me.” Pearce’s platform reflects concerns many Bowie residents face daily. She is advocating for lower property taxes, solutions to rising utility costs, and stronger representation for residents at the state level. Her campaign also prioritizes improving local schools, strengthening public safety, and supporting small businesses—the backbone of the community. Beyond policy, Pearce is focused on practical improvements to everyday life. Her proposals include enhancing city services such as trash collection, expanding access to grocery stores, and investing in infrastructure to ensure neighborhoods are equipped for future growth. Despite her age, Pearce brings a record of leadership and achievement. She served as a class president in middle school, student body president in high school, and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class at Bowie High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Howard University in just three years. Her professional experience spans legislative work as a law clerk intern, statewide advocacy with One Fair Wage, and roles in political campaigns focused on fundraising and communications. She currently works as an account executive at a political consulting firm, further sharpening her understanding of policy and public outreach. Still, Pearce says her campaign is about more than qualifications—it’s about inspiring a new generation to step forward. “Our time is NOW,” she shared on social media. “The future is ours, and it’s time for us to set our path straight—not just for ourselves, but for our children and their children after them.” As Bowie prepares to elect its next mayor, Pearce’s candidacy is already leaving a mark—energizing younger voters, elevating community voices, and reminding residents that leadership is not defined by age, but by vision, dedication, and a willingness to serve.
