MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A man wanted on multiple murder charges in Louisiana was taken into custody in Mobile after allegedly providing false information while being processed at a local mental health facility, according to the Mobile Police Department. Authorities say officers responded late Monday afternoon after being notified by staff at AltaPointe Health, where the individual had been transported by a neighboring law enforcement agency. During standard intake procedures, staff quickly became suspicious when inconsistencies emerged in the subject’s identity. According to police, AltaPointe personnel determined that the individual was not who he claimed to be and had provided false identifying information to the agency that initially transported him. Once concerns were raised, Mobile police were contacted immediately. Responding officers were able to confirm the man’s true identity as Lee Collins III, who is currently wanted in Louisiana on two counts of murder. Officials did not release details regarding the underlying charges but confirmed that Collins is the subject of an active investigation in another jurisdiction. The Mobile Police Department has since notified the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, which is expected to take the lead in the case moving forward. Representatives from that agency are traveling to Mobile to interview Collins and begin the extradition process to return him to Louisiana. Officials praised the actions of AltaPointe Health staff, citing their attentiveness and adherence to protocol as key factors in the swift resolution. No additional details have been released, and authorities say further information will come from the agency handling the investigation in Louisiana.
